BioCarbon is honored to be highlighted by XPRIZE, a global leader in incentivizing breakthrough solutions for a sustainable future. Our work in renewable carbon for steelmaking has been recognized as a crucial innovation for decarbonizing industrial processes.

Advancing Sustainable Steel Production

The steel industry is responsible for approximately 8% of global CO₂ emissions, with fossil-based charge carbon playing a significant role in the process. BioCarbon’s high-performance pyrolysis technology enables the production of renewable carbon, providing a viable alternative to fossil carbon in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking.

BioCarbon has successfully trialed its renewable charge carbon in Australian EAFs, demonstrating its effectiveness in producing high-quality steel while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. These trials represent a major step toward the industry’s transition to low-emission steelmaking.

A Step Towards Net Zero

Recognition from XPRIZE further validates BioCarbon’s mission to contribute to a more sustainable manufacturing sector. By scaling our renewable carbon technology, we aim to help steelmakers meet their net-zero commitments while maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
